Manchester University Rag week in 1937. Wonderful Art Deco graphics!

The snake appears regularly with Man Uni rag rag posters, what is the meaning?? Perhaps something to do with Cross dressing which was a big part on rag week and even same sex kissing. so perhaps the snake refers to Temptation??

Not to forget that the “Sexual Offences Act” was only passed by Parliament in Great Britain in 1967!!  This act affected men and not women, as women’s private lives were not criminalized. the law had ignored Lesbians. Male homosexuality was illegal till 1967!!

Which makes this poster interesting not only for its announcement of Rag Rag week but it's sexual innuendoes as well as being a wonderful representation of the Art Deco movement.

“laugh clown laugh” is a 1928 film. It’s got a 93% with "Rotten tomatoes" so not a “must see” film. Still an interesting allusion for those days.
