Sabena” stands for, and not many people realise how big a mouthful it is, “Societé Anonyme Belge d'Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne” or “Belgian Corporation for Air Navigation Services” It was the Belgium national carrier from 1923 till 2001 when it went bankrupt. It’s first commercial flight was from Brussels to London in 1923.
Sabena purchased its first Boeing in 1960, the 707-320. The 737 first came into service in 1967 and became the most sold commercial plane ever. Over 6,000 had been built in 2009 and the 8,000 was delivered on the 17th April 2014!!!
